Rec League Athletes Get Concussions, Too!

I have a secret.

Being a communications professional here at LifeBridge Health is only my day job. On the weekends, I moonlight as an over-the-hill rec league soccer goalie.

I?m not alone. There are millions of men and women who play sports for the pure fun of it in recreational leagues focused on sports like soccer, softball, kickball, you name it.

For those of us who are older, sustaining an injury while playing a sport comes with the territory. Our bodies are slower, and aches and pains are more prevalant. But this blog post isn?t about that. (Although, I will add, if you are having any type of back pain, go here for some helpful info!)

This post is about concussions. We often think of concussions in relation to the NFL or even high school sports. But the truth is even casual athletes sustain concussions. And while an NFL player has a team of experts who can diagnose a concussion right away, the everyday Joes like us don?t have the same luxury.

That?s why LifeBridge Health is offering a special info talk about concussions and the rec league athlete on October 25 at 6:30 p.m. at LifeBridge Health & Fitness in Pikesville, Md. It will be hosted by Kevin Crutchfield, M.D., a respected concussion expert. He spends every day treating sports concussions in people of all ages, from the pros to young kids.

Dr. Crutchfield?s talk will help you understand the symptoms of a concussion and what you can do when you think you or your teammate might have one.

Mark your calendars for October 25 and come out with yourself or your entire team!
