Blackmon faces DUI charge

Jacksonville Jaguars receiver Justin Blackmon, the fifth player taken in this year's draft, was arrested on an aggravated DUI charge Sunday after authorities in Oklahoma said he had three times the legal limit of alcohol in his system.

The former Oklahoma State standout smelled of alcohol when an officer pulled him over shortly after 3 a.m., Stillwater police spokesman Capt. Randy Dickerson said.

Blackmon, 22, had a 0.24 percent blood-alcohol level ? compared with the legal limit of .08 percent, Dickerson said.

Blackmon was released from jail on $1,000 bond and is due in court Monday.

Johnson decides to retire

Olympic gold medalist Shawn Johnson, 20, of West Des Moines, Iowa, announced she was retiring from the sport. Repeated setbacks with her left knee made contending for a spot at this summer's London Olympics impossible and made her fearful she was putting her long-term health at risk, she said.

Johnson's four medals at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing included a gold on the balance beam.

"My body is to the point where I need time to rest and retire so I can be healthy for the rest of my life," Johnson said.

Thomas to take a season off

Boston Bruins goaltender Tim Thomas says he will sit out next season.

"At the age of 38, I believe it is time to put my time and energies into those areas and relationships that I have neglected," Thomas said on his Facebook page.

Thomas led the Bruins to the Stanley Cup last year.

U.S., Canada play to 0-0 tie

The U.S. men's team played a scoreless draw against Canada in Toronto in its third exhibition match in eight days.

Canada was seeking its first victory over the United States since a 2-0 decision in 1985 in Vancouver, B.C. The United States is 13-8-10 in the series.

The match was the first between the teams to be played north of the border since 1997.

Armstrong wins in Hawaii

Lance Armstrong, a seven-time Tour de France cycling champion, won his second Half Ironman triathlon.

The 70.3-mile event in Hawaii was the fifth at the distance for Armstrong, 40, who triumphed in Florida on May 20.

College softball

Pac-12 title streak is over

The Pac-12's run of Women's College World Series championships has been interrupted.

Alabama of the Southeastern Conference and Oklahoma of the Big 12 advanced to the best-of-three final in Oklahoma City by eliminating Pac-12 opponents.

Alabama beat top-seeded California 5-2 and Oklahoma defeated defending NCAA champion Arizona State 5-3. In order to reach the championship round, Cal and Arizona State would have needed to win twice Sunday.

For the first time since 1986, a Pac-12 team will not be in the final round. The conference had won six straight NCAA titles and 10 of the past 11.

College baseball

LSU eliminates Oregon St.

Five Pac-12 schools are in the 64-team NCAA tournament and Oregon State was the first to be eliminated.

The Beavers lost to host Louisiana State 6-5 in 10 innings in the Baton Rouge Regional after beating Louisiana-Monroe 11-2 earlier in the day.

Oregon State freshman Michael Conforto, a former Redmond High School standout, was 5 for 8 with five runs batted in over the two games.

The four other Pac-12 teams ? Oregon, UCLA, Stanford and Arizona ? each hosted four-team, double-elimination regionals and won the first two games.

Oregon advanced to the round of 16 in the minimum three games when it routed Austin Peay 8-1. The Ducks will play Kent State in a best-of-three super regional.

Stanford beat Pepperdine 8-7 and will play Florida State in a super regional.

Elsewhere

? Dartmouth repeated as national champion, beating Arizona 24-5 in Chester, Pa., in the USA Sevens Collegiate Rugby Championship.

Will Mueller led the Big Green with two tries.

? Cappie Pondexter scored 25 points to lead New York to an 87-72 WNBA victory over the visiting Indiana Fever, snapping the Liberty's longest winless start in franchise history.

Leilani Mitchell, who is from Kennewick, had 13 points for New York (1-5).

Tamika Catchings scored 19 points for the Fever (4-1).

In other league games, defending champion Minnesota beat visiting San Antonio 83-79 to improve to 7-0; host Phoenix beat Tulsa 79-72; and Connecticut defeated Washington 94-86.
